Counting Down to California's Close Recall Election

The clock is now ticking down, every day, to California’s recall election that could force Governor Gavin Newsom to leave office in October.

Some of the mail in ballots that started arriving at voters’ homes just days ago have already been mailed back to election officials. And over the next 25 days, more mail in ballots will be sent in with other voters casting their ballots in person either before election day or on election day.

And then on the night of September 14th after the polls close at 8pm, the counting will begin. If the recall vote is close, then it could be late that night or the next day before the results are in.

The polls show the recall election right now is going to be close and could be very close. It’s definitely nail-biting time for Governor Newsom and all those who support him and are against the recall.

And for the serious candidates among the 46 those names are on the ballot for voters to choose from if Newsom is recalled, it also could be a close race. San Diego’s former mayor Kevin Faulconer is on the offensive and so is conservative radio talk show host Larry Elder. And with nearly four dozen names on the recall ballot, the winner could win with a pretty small percentage of the total vote.

But no matter what happens on September 14th, the campaign for the regularly scheduled election for the job of California governor set for November 8th, 2022, will begin the day after. California politics, you gotta love it...or not!
