The Consequences of Elections and Character

Elections have consequences. A saying about politics that is echoed repeatedly from small town America to the nation’s capital.

Winners remind winners of it when they win and losers remind losers of it when they lose. And every two years, or every four years or every six years, voters have the opportunity to create new winners and new losers.

And every so often, in California, losers in one election rise up to vote out a winner before they face the next scheduled election. We are seeing it played right now in the recall election which will decide if Gavin Newsom, a winner in 2018 when he first elected governor becomes a loser and if one of 40 or so recall candidates becomes a winner.

No matter what happens on September 14th after all the recall ballots are counted, there will be consequences. And depending on your point of view they will be good, or bad or just ugly.

There will be consequences in California either way the recall election goes. But with the regularly scheduled election in California now just 14 over months away, there will be consequences again after the results of that election.

There are consequences from a lot of things in life and not just elections and politics. Just ask Mike Richards who was going to be the new host of Jeopardy, and others who have had to quit or lose their jobs as consequences of something they said or did. That’s because one’s character can determine one’s consequences.
