LISTEN: KOGO News Staff Presents "The Bethlehem Report"

So what’s going on in Bethlehem on this Christmas Eve?

According to a report from the Associated Press reporter there…”Smaller than usual crowds — reflected in celebrations around the world on a Christmas Eve dampened once again by the coronavirus. A ban by Israel due to the spread of the contagious Omicron variant on nearly all incoming air traffic — is keeping international tourists away from the home of the birthplace of Jesus….for a second year in a row."

News reports from the town of Bethlehem happen every year. But what if reporters had been around 2,000 years ago to cover the first Christmas. That’s the idea behind a San Diego radio tradition called the Bethlehem Report.

KOGO’s news staff goes back in time to report on the breaking news developments of what happened that night in Bethlehem. We tell the story as if it is happening now, with our reporters on the ground in Bethlehem, describing an unusual star, interviewing shepherds, the innkeeper, and residents.

You will hear the familiar voices you listen to every day on KOGO, including LaDona Harvey, Ted Garcia, Eddie McCoven, Marty Golingan, Jack Cronin, Lucinda Kay and Phil Farrar along with the voices of a couple of radio personalities who are no longer with us, but whose memories are rekindled, KOGO’s longtime Business News reporter George Chamberlin and popular late night talk show host Art Bell.

This is the 38th year of presenting the Bethlehem Report to radio listeners in San Diego who tell us every year that they listen to it with their kids, young and old.

And that’s why you will also hear the voices of the three now-grown children of my wife and I and our eight grandkids during this unique Christmas program, including our youngest, who at less than a year old, provides the sounds of the little baby in the manger.

The Bethlehem Report airs 6 tonight on KOGO and if you haven’t heard it, we hope you listen this evening. If you have, we hope you listen again .And all of us here at KOGO, wish you and your family a very merry Christmas and a New Year filled with Good News.
