A Message for All Americans About What Happened on Jan 6, 2021

January 6, 2021 will be a day that is remembered. No doubt about that.

Kids in school in the years and decades ahead will likely read the historical accounts of what happened. But how it will be remembered and what it was all about and what it meant may be different because of opposing world views and opposing views of the American form of democracy.

As much as President Biden said in his speech on January 6th that we live in the United States of America, it is easy to see the division in America, over almost everything it seems at times.

From the historic pandemic certainly…to how we live, where we live and even where we go to church has become infected with political division at times.

Politics as always been called a tough business, but in recent decades, there has arguably been a loss in civil discourse and the two political parties have become more like warring enemies, with too many political leaders believing that if I lose, you win and so I can’t let you win, no matter what.

But we all must keep in mind that while our country has never been perfect and has lots of stains in our history, we also have survived a civil war and more setbacks.

And if anything, January 6th and what will be remembered about it should serve as a call on all Americans to try to be better toward each other and as our founders put it, to serve the common good for all Americans.
