The Parents Who are Anti-Mask and Pro-Vaccine

More parents seem to be talking about the concerns they have about masks in school.

But they’re also talking about making sure that kids get vaccinated. And now some pediatricians and other doctors as well as mental health experts have started to suggest that maybe it’s time to back off a bit on making especially younger kids wear masks in school. The ones who are suggest that they may be causing more harm than good.

During that statewide zoom news conference we’ve been reporting about, heads of California hospitals and doctors, urged parents to get their kids vaccinated.  The say the vaccine is safe and effective and they’ve seen the number of kids having to go to the hospital for COVID increase during these last couple of months.

But the CEO at Rady Children’s Hospital also expressed concern about the staggering increase, as he put it, in kids of all ages suffering from mental health problems because of pandemic stress and pandemic restrictions.

Despite most school districts still requiring that kids mask up while in school and the CDC recommending it, there appear to be more parents who are now calling for an end to masks, especially for younger kids. But at the same time, they are strongly pro-vaccine. These parents suggest that the masks are having a negative impact on their kids, but they also want their kids protected and say kids should be vaccinated.

Weighing risks and benefits is a part of life, and after two years of this pandemic, maybe it’s time to unmask the mask debate.
