The war in Ukraine is being called the first war fought in the social media age.
Images and information from the battlefields in cities across Ukraine are uploaded and posted on Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites…some live…as the events are happening.
It doesn’t mean we know everything that is going on when it comes to troop movements and numbers of dead and wounded because some of it can be hard to verify without official word from Ukraine officials.
But we can and do see the images and videos of real people in Ukraine in real time living through a war and trying to stay safe. The images of destruction and the images of frightened refugees, mostly women and children ca tear at our hearts. But much of what we are seeing also brings us hope as we all watch the bravery and courage and spirit of the Ukrainian people
And over the weekend, there was one particular video on Twitter taken inside a shelter in a city under attack in Ukraine that displayed all of that in one minute and 46 seconds. With dozens of people crowded into the shelter, a little girl is singing a song, the song from Frozen, “Let it Go”.
Her little voice and her smiling face and the reaction from all the others who are living in a shelter to protect them from missiles and bombs, gives you hope that good can and will overcome the evil that has invaded that country, whose citizens are fighting to keep themselves and freedom alive. If you haven’t seen this, you need to. We all do.
