A survey that we reported on this week says most Americans don’t worry much any more about getting infected with the COVID virus.
With the number of cases way down from the peaks in January and February, it sure feels like we don’t need to worry, at least not as much as we were. But should we be worried about the new sub-variant of the Omicron variant that is now accounting for nearly 25 percent of all new cases?
While B-A 2, this child of B-A 1, the first Omicron variant, has gained some steam, experts are saying there are reasons why we probably don’t have to worry so much about it.
According to reports this week, epidemiologists say that rise in the number of new cases is at least partially due most mask mandates and other COVID restrictions being eased, they say they doubt that it will cause a large new spike.
And they say that while this new variant may spread easier, it does not seem to have what the previous Omicron strain had…that caused a lot of breakthrough infections. And the new treatments that have been used for Omicron 1 also work for Omicron 2.
And all the evidence they say shows that all the vaccines work against this latest strain, and prevent most serious cases and hospitalizations, especially with a booster.
So based on the evidence, here in March of 2022, two years after the pandemic began, it looks like getting the shots is the best way to boost your immunity and lower your worry.
