How to Deal with Average Gas Price at $6 a Gallon and Headed Higher

The numbers tell the story. You’re hearing the reports this morning.

"5-99-9" as of today, is the average price for a gallon of regular grade gasoline. Just a tiny tenth of a cent tick below where we all figured we were headed, six dollars a gallon.

Of course, because that is the average price, there are prices lower than that and more than that. And that’s why there are long lines of at Costco gas pumps and no lines at gas stations where the price is higher.

And that’s why we are getting calls from listeners now letting us know where they have found prices lower than six bucks for a gallon of regular. One woman calling us yesterday excitedly telling us she had found gas for five dollars and 70 cents, and she wanted everyone to know.

Yes, few of us were thinking a couple of months ago that gas prices would reach six dollars a gallon. And of course, the prices are expected to go even higher. You already see some signs at some gas stations in California where prices are posted at 7 dollars a gallon and even higher.

But with the war in Ukraine and no one knowing how long that and its ripple effects on gas prices and the world’s economy will go on, we may need to grin and bear it for a while. And it might help if we try to think of it as a sacrifice that needs to be made to help stop a war and save lives.
