Why Padre Fans Have High Hopes and Higher Expectations

A few months back, a lot of baseball fans were worried there might not be much of a Major League Baseball season in 2022.

When the MLB players contract ran out in December, the owners announced a lock out and it looked like there would no spring training and probably a much-shortened season and maybe even no season at all.

But then a few weeks back, the two sides did finally settle on a new contract. It meant a shortened spring training and while the scheduled start of the regular season was pushed back a week, they will still play a full schedule of 162 games here in 2022.

So now it’s Opening Day. Today. And like every opening day in the history of Major League Baseball, almost every fan is optimistic about their team’s chances of winning.

Of course, most teams will not make it the post season playoffs, and there will be lots of disappointed fans. Like last year in San Diego when the Padres unexpectedly and completely collapsed at the end of the season.

But now, the new season is here and unlike during most of their years of existence, the Padres have some of the best players in baseball, and the fans’ high hopes have again turned into even higher expectations.

More than most years, Padre fans want this year to be a great year. and the last thing they want is at the end of the season, having to say, once again, wait till next year.
