Every day that goes by we are seeing more scenes from the war in Ukraine and the scenes of the death and destruction by Russian forces.
And they are scenes that are very hard to look at. Turn on the TV news or look at the online news reports, and you see the warnings: “This report contains graphic content viewer discretion is advised.”
The scenes from today’s sudden and deadly rocket strike by Russian forces on a train station in eastern Ukraine where thousands of families are trying to flee to safety include the latest of these graphic and disturbing scenes.
Should the media be showing what they are showing? Typically, in the news business, scenes of bodies are usually not shown on TV, when it comes to accident and crime scenes. It has always been considered unsuitable and viewers will be offended and may turn off their TV
But we are now being shown repeated scenes and images of what is happening in a war that is going on in front of viewers eyes around the world.
And because it is a war that is affecting the entire world and because what is happening there is, as the president of Ukraine described it, “An evil without limits,” we need to see it.
It is the only way to really know about the evil that is going on. And good cannot overcome evil until it confronts it.
