Why San Diego Could Get Even More Sunshine Than Usual This Weekend

The rain last night and this morning here in San Diego and across Southern California hasn’t been much but it has been much needed.

We’re behind the normal average for rainfall at this time of this year, with the drier and hotter summer coming in a couple of months. And we’re already in drought conditions in most of the state. But maybe we’ll get more rain later this month and maybe we’ll get more rain next month, during the May gray weather we get a lot.

We have gotten a lot of rain at times in the spring, but not all that often and not that much.

But on this date 34 years ago in 1988, we got a lot of rain. If you lived in San Diego, maybe you remember. According to archives at the San Diego office of the National Weather Service, an intense winter-like storm brought heavy rain and thunderstorms during a four-days of rain.

There was flooding, mud slides, numerous traffic accidents and a rare thing happened with some baseball games between the Padres and Dodgers actually were rained out that stormy week.

The games this weekend between the two teams at Petco Park won’t be rained out, with sunny and warmer weather in the forecast.

And despite the need for even more rain, we don’t want it this weekend. What we do want is for the Padres to sweep the Dodgers. That would bring even more sunshine to San Diego.
