Addicted? How to Reduce Your Smartphone Use

If you think or you’re worried that you spend too much time on your smartphone, there’s a new study out that suggests an effective way to do cut back.

We’re all going to keep using our smartphones and are smart reasons to have it and use it. But as the leader of this study puts it, the smartphone is both a blessing and a curse.

The researchers had more than 600 smartphone users in the study. They asked one group to go without using it at all, another group to not use it for just one week and a third group to keep use it a lot.

Four months later they found that changing smartphone habits for just one week appeared to produce lasting results.

Those in smartphone abstinence group were using their phones for an average of 38 minutes less per day.

And those in the one hour less smartphone use group were using their phones even less….as much as 45 minutes a day less. Having given up using their smartphones for just one week, these folks still reported improved life satisfaction, more exercise, and less depression and anxiety.

This is one study and of course every user is different, but it would suggest that even reducing the time we spend using our smartphones by a short time looks to be a smart thing to do.
