How Not to Let the Bad News Get to You

This week’s report that the 53-degree water temperature at Mission Beach Sunday was the lowest reading that’s been recorded at any San Diego beach in nearly 20 years is just the latest event of a series of unusual events.

We heard last month that this has been one of the worst years for the number of tornadoes since they started keeping track of them.

The worldwide COVID pandemic is called the worst such health crisis since 1918. Serious crime is up in most major cities.

The January 6th insurrection at the U.S. capitol was called the worst attack since the British burned it in 1812.

And the invasion by Russia and the war in Ukraine and the millions of refugees…all make for the worst military crisis since World War II.

And now the headline today that reads, “The threat of nuclear war is real, a top Russian official says.”

Many of the events over the last couple of years have been called unprecedented or the worst in decades. And it can all become pretty unsettling. No wonder we hear of increases in mental health issues and more people seeking help.

Experts recommend taking some time away from it all, and spending more time with family and friends, and less time on social media where there is so many negative things being talked about. Not a bad idea.
