What to Do About the Eruption of Violence

One popular news site called it an "American eruption".

That’s how Axios described the deadly mass shooting in Buffalo New York on Saturday afternoon, a shooting that killed 10 people in a supermarket, an attack that ignited debates over guns, racism and radicalization.” But can also say the entire weekend across the country was an eruption of violence.

In nearby Laguna Niguel, a gunman opens fire in a church, one person was killed and four others critically wounded.

In Los Angeles, a man was killed in what LAPD said was an isolated shooting at the Grand Central Market but had dozens of people running for cover.

In Houston, two people were killed and three injured during an altercation among several people with guns at an outdoor flea market..

In Chicago, the city’s most popular park downtown was under a curfew after a 16-year-old was shot and killed there.

In Milwaukee, 21 people were injured in three shootings near where an NBA playoff game was being played.

And back here in San Diego, a 31-year-old mother was shot dead and her 12-year-old son wounded in what police say resulted from an apparent confrontation of some kind between neighbors.

And all of this happened just this last weekend. So why is all of this happening and what do we do about it? After a weekend like this, those are the questions that need to be asked and addressed, again, and maybe finally, seriously. And we all need to pray for peace.
