What to Expect in Tuesday's California Primary Election

California’s Primary election is tomorrow, Tuesday June 7 but it's looking like most voters will not be taking part.

Estimates from the experts who keep track of signs of what voter turnout is likely to be say fewer than half of eligible voters will cast ballots in tomorrow’s election…with some estimates of voter turnout in this first election of 2022 being under 40 percent. While primary elections typically and traditionally have fewer voters vote than in November general elections, the extreme low turnout predictions are surprising when you consider what polls say…. that show a lot of Californians are not happy with the high prices for gas and housing, the increase in crime and the still lingering concerns about the pandemic.

But with the primary election in California not deciding winners and losers., except for which of the top two vote getters will runoff in the fall…and the fact that propositions. which often fire up voters, are no longer voted on in the state’s primary election but only in the November election, there’s not as much interest in this election.

One thing this primary election does have going for when it comes to voter turnout is that it is very easy to vote now…with every voter having received a mail ballot they can send back postage-free along with the early voting that began late last month that allows any voter to vote at any of the vote centers around the county.

Voters are always reminded of how important it is that voters vote. We’ll see how many eligible voters agree.
