Will Ten Plus Ten Add Up to New Gun Laws?

The tentative agreement on proposed new laws about guns reached between ten Democrats and ten Republicans in the U.S. Senate is being described in different ways.

The tentative deal comes a couple of weeks after the worst of the latest mass shootings in Uvalde Texas where 19 kids and 2 teachers were shot and killed. And it comes after several days of negotiations led by one Democrat and one Republican senator

It was a surprise to many, based on what they have seen not happen for decades, who are hopeful. But many also say they are still skeptical that in this most divisive time in politics, something like these new laws could become reality.

Based on what we’re hearing so far, there are signs the proposed new laws which deal with tightening the ability to get guns by those who are younger and those who have shown to be a danger, could indeed pass.

In a joint statement signed by all 10 Republicans and all 10 Democrats, they said, “Families are scared, and it is our duty to come together and get something done that will help restore their sense of safety and security in their communities.”

What that joint statement from the 20 Senators says is something that pretty much everyone would say and agree with.

As always, the devil will be in the details, but all Americans will be watching and many praying that somehow, some way, they won’t have to watch as many mass shootings as we all have for a very long time.
