With what happened just a few weeks ago in Uvalde Texas and Buffalo New York, going into the 4th of July weekend, law enforcement officials were certainly concerned.
It’s become almost standard operating procedure after mass shootings and worries about so-called copycat attacks.
But as much as police beef up and mental health experts issue pleas to say something about somebody who may have done something that signals trouble, once again, people are shot and killed and people are wounded by a young man with a gun, with his victims ranging in age 8 to 85 years old.
In the case of the Highland Park young man arrested for the killing of at least six with dozens injured in the community in this small suburb of Chicago, the shooter’s uncle told CNN, “There were no signs I saw that would make him do this.”
The suspect’s father, just three years ago, is a respected small business owner, who even ran for mayor of Highland Park in 2019, unsuccessfully. His political slogan was “A person for the people.”
This latest shooting tragedy, coming so soon after Uvalde and Buffalo, is sure to fire up the debate even more about gun control, mental health and whatever else that could possibly prevent the mass shootings that happen so frequently in the United States.
And with it happening on the 4th of July, the birthday of our nation, all Americans should be concerned about what it might say about America.
