Are they serious? Do the members of the Board of Supervisors in San Bernardino County really want to secede from California and become the 51st state?
Or are they just trying to get some attention. That’s what it sounds more like if listen to what they’re saying.
After voting for putting the issue on the election ballot this November, the head of the San Bernardino County supervisor said this: “If the worst thing that comes out of this is a study that will be ammunition for our state representatives to fight for more money for us” that would be acceptable. And another supervisor said he thinks their county should get more state and federal funds.
But is secession from the state of California to become a new state? Very unlikely. Very.
Even if enough voters in the 5th largest county in the state were to approve seceding from California, it would need the state legislature and the U.S. Congress to approve it and that won’t happen.
There’s been some talk in the past about splitting up the state of California into 2 or 3 states. But that went nowhere, and no one ever took it seriously.
While there may be more Californians moving to other states where it is cheaper to live, don’t look for our state to become any smaller, just maybe more expensive.
