It’s not unusual to have hottest weather each year n late August and early September but not for seven straight days.
But, starting today that’s what we’re going to get. You’re hearing the forecasts this morning with temperatures near 100 near the coast to several degrees above 100 inland, all the way through next Monday, Labor Day.
One of the meteorologists at the National Weather Service saying it could be record-breaking heat and is likely to produce a very high heat-illness risk. He says the good news is that while it means a greater fire risk, the winds are not expected to be severe.
But this extreme hot weather for this many days in a row will make drought conditions even worse.
So it’s a good idea to stay cool. Literally and figuratively. There’s nothing we can do to change the weather. So while we can complain about it, it doesn’t change it.
We’ve learned that weather itself can change with the higher temperatures and the lower rainfall totals we’ve seen in recent years.
Of course, let’s be honest, it’s hard to complain about the weather when you live in San Diego. After all, we’re known for having America’s finest weather.
And thankfully, when it gets this hot for as long as it’s going to be hot, we also have some of the greatest beaches…as well as a lot of air-conditioned move theaters around. Maybe just thinking cool will help. Ok. Maybe not.
