We all come to realize how amazing a creation the human body is.
And scientists will tell you how much we don’t know about the human body. We got another reminder this week from a new study done by researchers at Chapman University in Orange County.
And it’s especially relevant with kids just having headed back to classrooms, without masks, and the COVID virus still around, and the annual flu season not far off.
Thankfully, we have learned that the vaccines keep away serious disease from the virus among most people, but this new study found what the human body does on its own to help prevent sickness.
The researchers found that the human immune system starts working to protect you by just seeing sick people around you. In other words they found that your body starts working overtime when it just senses that the chances of a viral infection are high.
As the lead researcher put it in the report about this, “Observing images of sick people can already trigger activation of the immune system.” Now that’s pretty incredible. And good to know.
So when more people hear about this study, you may notice more people staring at you if you sneeze or cough, as they try to get their brains to tell their immune system to get to work.
