Is There a Fix for California's High Gas Prices?

You hear the stories here every day. The stories about the average price of gas in San Diego County and whether it’s up or down.

On most days in recent weeks, the price has been up with the average price now about $6.40 cents a gallon for regular gas.

But we all see those signs at those gas stations where the price is higher than that, even higher that seven dollars a gallon for regular grade gas.

With California having the highest prices for gas in the country, and considerably higher, there is always a lot of talk about what to do about it. How do we lower the price of gas? Can we lower the price of gas in California?

The San Diego Union Tribune put that question this week to a panel of local economists and business leaders. Can California fix its high-priced gasoline problem?

As you might expect, the ways suggested to lower gas prices include cutting the tax on gas, increasing supply with more refineries and more ones, and reducing some of the emission regulations.

Those who said they don’t see lower gas prices in California, say they don’t think the state’s leaders have the will to do it and that California is basically stuck in neutral when it comes to doing something about gas prices.

That’s not what any of us want to hear. Especially at a time when it’s costing a 100-dollars or more each time we need to fill up our tank in even average size vehicles.

But unless something is done, many California voters will run out of patience as they run out of money for gas.
