A Christmas Tree Moment to Remember This Year

It was historic in one way and in another way, a moment that seemed almost out of place with all the conflict and controversies that fill the news out of the nation’s capital.

It was the lighting of the national Christmas Tree at the White House Wednesday evening.

It was historic because it marked the 100th anniversary of a ceremony that happens every year at the White House. And every year the President makes some remarks as the National Christmas Tree is lit up.

And yet it was something that was very different from all the other things that are going on in Washington with all the harsh words and all the constant political bickering.

And yet while unusual these days in the nation’s capital, the words President Biden said during the ceremony were welcome.

Here’s some of what he said: “Through seasons of struggle and strife, progress and prosperity, for a century and counting, we’ve come together in a spirit of unity and joy, hope and light — and so we do today, with an eternal spirit of our nation as well.” And he added,  “So, from the Biden family to yours, Merry Christmas, America!”

With the political fighting, inflation spiraling, crime rising and a war against Russa raging, we all can use a very merry Christmas this year to give us the hope and the spirit we need.
