What You Want to Avoid During the Holidays

For the third year in a row, we head into next few weeks and the Christmas and holiday season, hearing words from hospitals, doctors and health officials about worries of a surge in the virus.

But this year, the situation is clearly not as bad as a year ago and definitely not like it was in 2020 during the first year of the pandemic.

But the latest reports from the county and the state show an increase in cases, positive test rates and hospitalizations.

And the question is being asked how bad with this holiday surge get?

While COVID-19 is not as bad as it was thanks to home testing kits, vaccinations and treatments, the number of flu cases is way up and along with the normal winter season cold viruses and the RSV virus among mostly kids.

All you have to do is look around at absences at schools and cases of various viruses at workplaces and hear what hospitals are saying about their crowded emergency rooms already this holiday season.

No one’s talking about any new mask requirements or shutdowns. And no one’s unhappy about that. But it is a time for everyone to do what they think they need to do to try to avoid getting any of these viruses. So the holiday season is a healthy one and not a sick one.
