It was a Christmas that millions of Americans will not soon, if ever, forget.
Especially anyone and everyone who has been affected by what has been described as the blizzard of a century.”
\The recorded setting cold in places that have not been that cold, the freezing rain and ice, and the blowing wind along with the multiple feet of snow in areas that are used to snow not like this…have all combined since the days before Christmas and now in the days after Christmas to create what one headline called it “calamity and chaos.”
With thousands of flights cancelled or delayed and millions of airline travelers stranded in airports for days and many searching for bags and luggage, a lot of people may think twice before they plan their next winter holiday trips.
And while Southwest Airlines issued an apology and all the airlines did what they could as things went from bad to worse, the stories you hear from travelers stuck in the mess are pretty incredible.
The former executive director of the Holiday Bowl, Bruce Binkowski, and longtime voice of stadium events and our former voice of sports here on the radio, described to the Union Tribune his trip from Montana, where he and his wife retired to, back to San Diego where tomorrow night will serve as public address announcer at the Holiday Bowl game.
Nearly 60 hours and three days of cancellations, delays and time spent in airports and hotels before the Binkowski’s finally made it here.
Their story is just one of many from people here and around the country who will always remember the Christmas of 2022.
