Just what airline travelers didn’t need. To wake up this morning to the news that their scheduled flight had been delayed or cancelled.
The ripple effects from an order like this from the FAA probably will have a cascading effect on thousands of flights all day today, at least.
The computer outage that the FAA was to blame for the sudden order overnight to ground flights comes of course after the massive winter storm during the holidays that led to tens of thousands of cancellations and hundreds of thousands of stranded travelers.
The airlines are still recovering from that holiday "flightmare", as it’s been called, especially at Southwest Airlines, which was to blame for most of the holiday cancellations
Federal officials reported just yesterday that they are acting on "thousands" of complaints by Southwest Airlines customers, including complaints that Southwest is not making good on its pledge to issue refunds.
The Department of Transportation says it “has sent every complaint directly to Southwest" and is now demanding the airline "provide substantive responses" to each within 60 days.
Southwest told CNN Tuesday that it is processing requests for refunds within an average of about three days. The airline said it is processing "tens of thousands" of requests each day and is complying with the federal regulations.
With what’s been going on the last few weeks with all these flight delays and cancellations,…and coupled with the higher prices for airline tickets now, if you’re travelling you may want to pack some patience into your luggage along with a few more bucks.
