It was six years ago almost to the day.
It was Jan 12, 2017, when San Diego Chargers owner Dean Spanos announced that he had decided to move the team to L-A.
As he put it at the time in a story by ESPN, “Today, we turn the page and begin an exciting new era as the Los Angeles Chargers" And he added, “We must get back to winning."
Well, Spanos probably never would have thought that exactly six years and two days after his announcement…that turning a page for his team meant turning to the same old page.
All you had to do was look at social media (SEE BELOW) for all the comments from former Charger fans about how the team choked again in losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars after blowing that huge lead this weekend.
They called it “Chargering.” The fans’ way to describe the Chargers’ reputation for blowing big games and how they do it. But these former fans clearly were NOT unhappy about what happened.
Instead, all those hate-watching former Charger fans saw it as sweet revenge and payback for the team owner turning his back on them after more than a half a century in San Diego…fans who supported the team they still would like to love...but who now love to hate.
