In recent years, in the days before the Super Bowl, there has been some talk about an idea to make the Monday after the big game an official holiday.
Some think it’s a great idea. And it could be that Tennessee might be the first state to do it.
At least that’s what two state lawmakers in Tennessee want. They’ve introduced legislation there that would make the Monday after the Super Bowl an official state holiday.
And as in the NFL, their proposal includes a trade. They want to swap out Columbus Day in October for a Super Bowl Monday holiday in Tennessee.
Those who like the idea say that with the more than 100 million or so Americans who watch the big game, why shouldn’t the Monday after be a holiday. As one commentator points out, there are few things left in America that bring people together like sports.
And if the day after the Super Bowl were a holiday, there would be more time for families and friends to spend time together and that’s a good thing. That is, as long as they don’t spend time on the topic of politics.
In fact if the Monday after the Super Bowl were to ever become a holiday, the rule should be not to talk politics. And that would be a huge win for everyone!
