Have you noticed? Much of the spotlight of the sports world is on San Diego.
The Padres are the talk of sports with the Major League Baseball season now fewer than 30 days away.
Padres owner Peter Seidler has spent gobs of money, far more than any other past Padres owner, and more than almost every other MLB team. And the Padres now have some of the best players in baseball and potentially several Hall of Famers one day.
But the talk about the Padres is not all favorable. Most of it is here in San Diego of course, but elsewhere, Peter Seidler is taking hits from some other owners that he is spending too much money and driving up the costs for every other team.
Of course, Seidler wouldn’t spend the kind of money he is spending unless he thought it would mean making the team a continued success and generate more revenue. There’s an old saying about how much you spend is not as important as how much you make.
But Peter Seidler is different than all the other team owners, all of whom are rich, in a very different and very notable way. He’s also a philanthropist, who gives tons of money to charitable causes to help his community be better, especially when it comes to homelessness.
With great wealth comes great responsibility and the owner of the Padres is helping to make San Diego the talk of the town all across the country
