What to Do More of This Week

Lots of talk about religion is in the news this week.

This is Holy week for Christians with Good Friday tomorrow and the Easter celebration on Sunday.  The Jewish Passover started this week and Muslims are marking the month of their Ramadan.

All three observances very important to believers of each of the three religions. And while this should be a time of peace and hope, it is a time of more tension in the Middle East where all three religious faiths were born.

As Passover began, a barrage of rockets and mortars were being fired into Israel from Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. There have been new confrontations between Jews and Muslims in Jerusalem as police clashed with Palestinians at the Al-Aqsa Mosque with more than 350 people arrested. And Christians celebrating the Easter resurrection are worrying about being caught up in the violence.

And while the U.S. has made an appeal to those in the Holy Land to ease tensions there, here in our country the harsh political divisions have gotten harsher and the most recent school shooting in Nashville has sparked even fiercer debates over guns than usual.

Most people desire peace. And with everything going on maybe this holy week and holy time for the followers of the three major religions is the perfect time to hope and pray for it.
