Finding an Answer to Homelessness in San Diego

It’s a big day at San Diego city hall tomorrow and probably a very long day.

The City Council will be taking up the proposed ban on homeless encampments from public property in San Diego.

If the council approves it, the ordinance would prohibit people from camping on public property if options for shelter are available, but it also would ban camping on certain property in certain areas, such as public parks, or near schools, even if no legal shelters are available.

It is a plan from Councilmember Stephen Whitburn and with the full backing of Mayor Todd Gloria.

But there have been protests and people speaking out against it and there will be more tomorrow.

Everyone agrees that homelessness in San Diego is worse than it’s been and that something has to be done, but there are disagreements over what and how it should be done.

No one knows for sure what will happen tomorrow, but the homeless issue has never been as hot an issue as it is now. Let’s just hope the heat brings light to an issue that needs to be solved.
