Why San Diego is Different Than the Rest of California

You hear a lot of stories about how a lot of Californians are leaving California to live in other states.

While there is evidence of that happening in the Los Angeles, San Francisco and Orange counties, it’s a different story in San Diego County.

Those numbers from the 2022 Census County Population report published this week by the San Diego Union Tribune show that while the L-A area lost more than 90-thousand people, and while the O-C lost close to 10,000 people and while San Francisco lost nearly 3,000 people, San Diego County added close to 13-hundred people. Not a lot but better than the other big counties in California.

So why is San Diego gaining residents while the other counties are losing residents?

With San Diego having the highest cost for housing compared to the other large metropolitan areas of the state and the 2nd highest in the country, with only Tampa Florida housing prices even higher, why would San Diego be adding people while other areas are losing them?

Might it be because we have America’s finest weather, or the state’s best beaches or because of San Diego being the home of the most military bases in the country or because of our proximity to Mexico?

Whatever the reasons may be, it’s good news. That is, as long as we don’t get too many people coming here and making traffic like it is in L-A.
