New Research About Dads for Father's Day

A new report from the Pew Research Center says American fatherhood looks different than it did decades ago.

Today’s dads spend more time caring for their children, and they’re less likely than in the past to be the breadwinner.

The Pew survey shows that the vast majority of fathers with children under 18 say being a parent is one of the most important aspects of who they are as a person. And most fathers say they want their kids to be honest, ethical and successful as adults.

But at the same time, research also shows that the U.S. has the highest percentage of children living in single parent homes in the world with about 80 percent of those parents being the mom.

And sadly, they say, the research from various sources shows that children who live in fatherless homes are more likely to:

·Be poor.

·Commit a crime.

·Go to prison.

·Abuse drugs or alcohol.

·Commit suicide.

·Run away from home.

·Drop out of high school.

·Suffer abuse.

That’s sobering stuff as we prepare to celebrate Father’s Day, but a reminder for dads that they really matter to their kids now and in the future.
