Should We Be Worried About a COVID-19 Resurgence?

More than three and a half years since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and six months after the official and formal end of the remaining restrictions in California, It's not what anyone wants to hear.

The report this week from the CDC that COVID-19 infections, emergency room visits and hospital admissions have started to rise this summer around the country, up a little over 10-percent last week.

With this being the fourth summer since the start of the pandemic, most people you talk to say they’re done with pandemic worries and have already moved on. But with this new report, is there anything to worry about?

The medical experts are saying probably not.

They don’t see mask requirements or other social distancing requirements coming back. With so many people having been vaccinated partially or fully and with the natural immunity from so many people having had the virus or exposed to it, things obviously have dramatically changed and are just as dramatically a lot better.

So health officials do not see a big resurgence of COVID-19.

For those who are in high-risk categories, they are still advised to think about having the updated vaccines due out in a month or two and maybe avoiding being on airplanes or other tight quarters, but otherwise, the worries of the pandemic seem to be over.

But having gone through what we all went through, the experience has left behind an increased awareness about viruses and germs and a wider acceptance of the benefits of good hygiene.
