The battle over the border has clearly heated up in recent weeks and months. It’s a battle of course that’s been going on for a very long time and not just years, but several decades, how about four of them, going way back to the 1980’s.
But now a growing number of migrants seeking asylum and migrants crossing the border illegally and the continued drop-offs of thousands of people happening in cities from San Diego to New York have prompted local officials like the San Diego County Board of Supervisors to declare a humanitarian crisis and to make a bi-partisan call for help from the federal government.
With everything going on, this all should have everyone in Congress working on trying to figure out what best to do.
The news that President Biden, who ran for office saying he was not going to spend any more money on building more of the border wall, has now authorized the building of 20 more miles of the border wall along the Texas state line is a sign that things could be changing. Former President Trump, who ran for office saying he would make Mexico pay for a new border wall, didn’t make it happen.
Democrats and Republicans in Congress spend most of their time arguing and fighting with each other over what the border and immigration policy should be and sadly using it as an issue to raise campaign funds so they can be-elected.
The battle over the border won’t end till leaders of both political parties decide to work together. But the way things are going right now, don’t count on it.
