Why It's Smart to Know More About AI

Lots of news this week about Artificial Intelligence which a lot of people don’t know a lot about.

Oh they know what the term AI is now but a lot of people really don’t know much about what it does or how it does it. There are some who just push it aside with remarks like, I don’t get all that stuff and I don’t want to even hear about it.

Well, we are all hearing more about it lately. And it would be smart to know what AI is and what it is doing.

President Biden did something about it this week, signing the first ever presidential executive order that lays out rules and regs for AI companies that are aimed at making sure their AI technology is safe.

Also this week, the News Media Alliance, which represents close to 2,000 news outlets in the U.S. released results of research that found that AI systems such as OpenAI and Google have copied and used published news and digital media content to train their bots, or AI robots. The news media alliance accuses the AI companies of, while recognizing the unique value of all this news content, the developers of AI have not gotten proper permission through licensing agreements or compensating publishers for the use of it.

With many news media outlets having to cut back or shut down, that is a problem. And in a variety of industries, there already is a big concern about how AI could eliminate a lot of jobs and a lot of workers.

So, while artificial intelligence technology is speeding forward, it may be necessary to slow things down a bit and think more about how it should be used.
