When Will It Be Time for a Change to the Time Change?

The time changes this weekend, and as it does every time it happens, twice a year, it raises the same question. When are we going to stop doing this?

According to recent polls, a majority of Americans agree that ending the time changes every spring and fall is generally a good idea.

The so-called Sunshine Protection Act came close to becoming law last year but some doctors and scientists had a problem with the bill because it requires all states to go on permanent daylight saving time instead of standard time. They say our body clocks are better aligned with getting light in the morning and gives us better sleep and makes us healthier.

But it’s been reported recently that economics may be playing more of a factor in the resistance with some businesses telling members of Congress that they see more business and make more money during daylight saving time.

For now the proposed change in the time change law remains stalled, especially with everything else going on in Congress these days. So that means we fall back one hour this weekend and then we spring forward one hour next spring.

But we can hope that there may come a time, at some point in time, when we don’t change the time.
