What Today's San Diego County Supervisor Election Means

It's an election day in San Diego today, not for everybody, just for some, but get ready, more elections are coming.

Today’s election is for the vacant seat that once belonged to Nathan Fletcher before his political career took a giant fall after being accused of sexually harassing and assaulting a female employee at MTS where he was the chair.

How things can change in less than a year.

In this election, the choice for voters is a liberal Democrat and a conservative Republican, two very different political types, with stark differences.

Some experts inside the local political sphere expect Monica Montgomery-Steppe is likely to crush Amy Reichert when all the election results come in.

Yet there are some, despite the Board of Supervisors 4th District being more Democrat than Republican, who think Reichert has a chance at pulling an upset.

Whatever happens, the outcome of this election will determine a lot about what the Board of Supervisors does and doesn’t do during the next three years.

This election, while an important one, is just the first of what will be two much bigger elections over the next 12 months; the primary in March and the general and presidential election in November of 2024.

And as they say, elections have consequences.
