How to be Thankful for the Construction at San Diego International

If you’ve been to San Diego International airport anytime over the last year, you’ve experienced the traffic congestion, the changes in where things are like the cell phone lot and other impacts of the $3.4 billion dollar construction project that will culminate with a brand new, very long overdue Terminal One.

The 1960s era Terminal One has needed renovation for decades and this new Terminal One when it opens in late 2025 and when the final 11 gates are done in 2028, it will have become a state of the art airport terminal.

And San Diego International will become what it should be, an airport that matches the city in which it is located, one of America’s finest.

Airport officials this week are marking a milestone point with 100 percent of the massive steel framework done. The work has been going on around the clock for some time now and when you go to the airport, you see what has happened and what is happening.

And as we approach what is predicted to be one of the busiest Thanksgiving week travel season in 20 years, there are likely to be delays anyway, and there could even be more because of all the construction.

But at least travelers in and out of our airport will know that better days are coming that will make flying into and out of San Diego a lot more friendly.
