WATCH: How National News Describes Big Storm in San Diego

It will be a day that for decades into the future, many San Diegans will still remember and talk about.

The big storm of January 22nd 2024.

News about San Diego’s weather doesn’t make news very often, but the news about this storm was splashed across TV screens of the network evening news and on the pages and websites of national newspapers.

A headline by the UDS Today this morning reads: ”Flooding wreaks havoc on San Diego on the rainiest January day in the city’s history.”

The New York Times this morning describes the storm this way.

“Across the region, drivers found themselves navigating clogged roadways or, worse, forced to abandon their cars altogether. Sections of major freeways looked more like rivers.

The New York Times story goes on to say, “Coronado, a resort city across the bay from San Diego, asked its 22,000 residents on Monday night to limit their use of faucets, showers and laundry machines because the local sewer system was overwhelmed and needed 24 hours to recover.

Hundreds of people were rescued from homes and flooded parts of the city, including areas along the San Diego River, and the Tijuana River Valley.   One resident telling the NY Times, “The whole house is, like, under mud.”

Yes it was a storm not to be forgotten and the aftermath of it will linger for  weeks for those whose homes and cars were damaged.

And it will go down as something long time local story teller Ken Kramer might call the day the rare storm that hit us and will forever be something to remember about San Diego.
