A Question That Needs an Answer After Kansas City Shooting

One of the questions you’ve heard asked on the talk shows  about the shooting Wednesday after the parade and rally for the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs was ending, is this one:

Is it safe anywhere these days?

The police chief in Kansas City said after the shooting they had more than 800 law enforcement officers at the parade and rally to provide security and to keep people safe.

And what she said reflects what a lot of people are saying, "I'm angry at what happened today," the police chief said. "The people who came to this celebration should expect a safe environment."

Yes they should. Can we anymore?

There have been shootings at other parades and at concerts and in supermarkets and at dance halls and of course at schools.

The police in Kansas City say this shooting appears to have been criminal in nature and not terrorism, at least according to the preliminary investigation.

But does it matter when you’re worried about whether it is safe to go anywhere these days?

And will it mean New Year’s Eve Times Square style lockdowns and metal detectors now at every public event and at every public location?

And how much longer will it be before we can find a way to do something about these shootings that make us not have to ask if it is safe anywhere these days.
