A New Survey Not to Sneeze At

If you are bothered by allergies, you know that this year the allergy season is worse than usual. The experts blame it on the rainy and warmer weather this past winter that led to an earlier and longer bloom of flowers and plants this spring.

So it’s not a surprise that an allergy center in New York commissioned a survey last month about allergies and colds and other viruses and their impact on the workplace.

The poll of 2,000 adults found that the average person in the U.S. works 10 days per year while feeling sick, with about half of them saying they’d rather power through the work day than take a sick day.

And apparently some pressure from their peers might have something to do with that.

This survey found that many of the participants say they worry that others may think they’re being dramatic when they’re not feeling well, with about half of them saying they can remember a negative comment someone else made to them about how often they don’t feel well.

With all of us having gone through the COVID pandemic, we know all know about worrying and not wanting to get infected or infect others. Maybe the takeaway from this survey should be to worry less and just try to get a little more rest.
