What to Do About What's Been Happening in 2024

Something has become even more apparent over the last few days with the news images we’ve seen lately.

If it feels like our country is all stirred up, it’s probably because it seems as if we are.

There are images and videos of news that fills our TV screens and our smart phones every day.

And they can fill our minds with questions and concerns and our hearts with sadness and even anger.

The pro-Palestinian anti-Israel protests and the allegations and fears about antisemitism are the latest flashpoints in the stirred up and divisive atmosphere we are experiencing here in 2024.

And with the presidential election year being what it has already been like, more verbal and even sometimes violent confrontations are possible.

Is there a way for both sides in any of these disagreements to find any common ground?

The editor in chief of Columbia University’s publication, the Spectator, issued a warning this week about that when she said this about the student protests.

“There seems to be very little room in terms of where the university wants to meet the students and the students want to meet with the university…and that “it doesn’t seem that there’s much room in terms of compromise.”

We can only hope and pray that while there will always be strong differences among us, more peaceful dialogue would be better than what we’re seeing.
