What Independent Voters Are Thinking About

If you’re a voter in San Diego, and possibly still undecided, you may be weighing which of the candidates will be the best for San Diego.

The issues of homelessness, the border, crime and the economy are all factors many voters are still thinking about before they decide how they will vote.

Of course most voters probably have already decided, especially if they identify with one of the political parties.

But there are lots of independents out there, mostly younger but also old, who are still making up their minds.

And that’s why our local and state leaders are speaking out about their particular party’s nominees.

The San Diego Union Tribune talked to Mayor Todd Gloria this week who campaigned for Kamala Harris last weekend and is at the Democratic National Convention among other state and local Democratic public officials.

Mayor Gloria says Harris served as a mentor for him early on in his political career and says she knows San Diego and cares about San Diego. His backing could make a difference for some undecided voters.

And when the Republicans held their national convention, there were local GOP politicians who were at that event who back Donald Trump. And their backing could also make a difference for some undecided voters as well.

But the most important thing voters need to do is vote. As the saying goes, if you don’t vote, you can’t complain.
