What to Think About as the Big Hurricane Hits Florida

You’ve been hearing the reports about Hurricane Helene.

The state of Florida is about to get hit by a major Category 4 storm according to forecasters with the governor of Florida saying it may be one of the worst storms ever in the Sunshine State.

This hurricane comes just days after Hurricane John slammed into Mexico around Acapulco causing damage and at least a couple of deaths.

And here in San Diego, all of this may remind some of us of what happened just this past January, when a storm hit, not anywhere near what is happening in Florida. But last January, we had record rainfall and unprecedented flash flooding in San Diego, with dozens of people rescued and dozens of homes damaged or destroyed in parts of the city. Very different indeed from our reputation as having America’s finest weather,

And I was just a little over a year ago that Hurricane Hilary was barreling toward San Diego in August of last year. It weakened before it got here but it was the first time in 84 years that a tropical storm hit Southern California.

Unlike Californians, Floridians are used to hurricanes. But with the predictions about what Hurricane Helene could do, many of them may want to move to California.
