How to Deal With Election Stress

The countdown to Election is now down to two weeks. And as it continues to countdown, something else is happening according to doctors and mental health experts.

It’s election stress. If you’re feeling it, you’re not alone.  The cause of course is related to the bombardment of political ads, political debates and political arguments.

As one doctor put it in a report this week, "I definitely have patients coming into session, talking about how they’re struggling with stress, anxiety and worry related to the election."

The cure?  This same doctor offers these suggestions: "Meditation, journaling, going out into nature, turning off your phone, really moderating your exposure to things like social media and TV, so that again, you stay informed, but you fuel your mind with some moments of quiet"

Adding to the stress now is the fear of the stress continuing after the election and that it could linger for weeks.

In other words, these feelings of stress and anxiety may not have even peaked yet.

That doesn’t mean that voters should drop out and not vote.

Casting your ballot actually can make you feel better knowing that your vote, even that one vote, is a cherished privilege we have in our country. And thinking about that in these final days toward the election may help.
