What to Watch Out for on the Freeways

We all are familiar with motorcyclists lane splitting….zipping between you and the vehicle next to you on the freeway.

Of course it’s often not easy to see these motorcycles as they slip in and out of your blind spot.

Make a last minute decision to make a lane change, even with your turn signal, and you worry about hitting one of these guys.

Lane splitting has always been legal in California but there are Caltrans signs reminding drivers of vehicles to look around and make room for motorcycles.

There are laws that are supposed to regulate lane splitting to prevent motorcyclists speeding and dangerously weaving in and out of lanes.

The HP says lane splitting should be no faster than 10 miles over the speed of traffic.

Seems as if a lot of motorcyclists haven’t heard.

Most say they do abide by the lane splitting guidelines and most probably do.

So for now, guess we have to keep our eyes open…and our ears too…when the sound of a motorcycle zipping by your side view mirror makes your muscles tighten on the steering wheel.
