One of San Diego's Other Finest Things

San Diego is known for having America’s finest weather. for its beautiful ocean and mountain views, and it’s unlike-Los Angeles like laid back lifestyle.

But one thing San Diego has also become known for is its variety and quality of its theater arts.

From the Old Globe in Balboa Park to the Civic Theater downtown to the La Jolla theater to the Moonlight amphitheater in the North County, San Diegans have a lot of fine theater.

But with the Cygnet Theater’s final performance in San Diego’s Old Town  month, after 20 seasons, it has lost one of a particularly unique theater.

The Cygnet Theatre folks are moving to The Joan and Irwin Jacobs Performing Arts Center in the Liberty Station Arts District.

While they won’t be doing plays any more at the red barn theater building in Old Town, according to the San Diego Union Tribune, Cygnet is subletting the unique theater to other performing arts organizations until the end of next year.

So with Cygnet not going away but just moving and with the continued efforts to restore and reopen the archaic yet still loveable Starlight Bowl in Balboa Park one day, the curtain will not be going down on San Diego’s reputation as one of America’s finest theater cities.
