The People to Remember When War Breaks Out

The military operation against Iran by U.S. and Israel has fueled even more harsh debate in our already very divided country politically.

It’s not the first time of course. Those of us who are old enough certainly can remember the Vietnam War and the protests and demonstrations.  And the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan after the 911 terrorist attack sparked disagreements politically that are still talked about.

So disagreements over the decision to attack Iran right now is not surprising, Just listen to the talk shows. The view of what is happening stretches from the far left to the far right, with many in between.

Having disagreements when it comes to something as serious as war is not necessarily a bad thing.  As our own Lou Penrose reminded listeners this week, there were a lot of disagreements before and during the Revolutionary War, between patriots and loyalists.

But our nation not only survived. It has thrived over the last 250 years.

The most important thing right now, here in the early months of 2026, especially for all of us who live in San Diego, is remembering all the brave men and women in the U.S. military who are doing what they volunteered to do. To serve and protect their country, knowing the risk of being in harm’s way and what that can mean.

And they are the people we should all be thinking about and praying for.
