We all know there are scams everywhere.
The real looking texts and emails that try to dupe you into clicking on them or opening them.
The phone calls you get from unknown numbers with people or AI voices on the other end threatening to turn off your power or fine you if you don’t pay up om a supposed bill you have.
Among the latest is contained in a notice from the Social Security Administration warning retires about a significant increase in a type of scam that could compromise your personal information.
It involves imposter scam emails that falsely claim to provide access to a recipient’s Social Security statement.
The notice from the agency says clicking links in the emails can lead to identity theft, financial loss, and compromised data.
So why do so many people get tricked and often financially damaged by these scams.
The percent of those who do is small but a scammer only needs a few to steal cash or an identity.
But right now, during tax time with the deadline coming up, everyone should be on their guard.
