The recent news about a plan to build a huge Navy SEAL museum along San Diego’s waterfront is news that some might say is long overdue. And it probably is.
The Board of Port Commissions still has to approve it, but there is a lot of momentum behind it.
The developers are proposing a four-story, 85,000-square-foot Navy SEAL Museum at the northern edge of Lane Field Park along Harbor Drive.
The retired Navy SEAL who is leading the effort told the Union Tribune, “Our vision is to add a new iconic destination on the waterfront in San Diego that’s representative of the significant impact of the organization that is Naval Special Warfare.”
A huge Navy SEAL museum in San Diego is of course a perfect fit for a place where the military is so important to our community and its reputation.
The Navy SEAL program is legendary here, with the grueling training that goes on along the shores of Coronado and the Silver Strand where they become the elite fighters that they are.
Many of us probably take for granted what the Navy and Marines mean to our economy and of course to our national defense.
And when the news about a Navy SEAL museum in San Diego comes at a time when thousands of U.S sailors and Marines are in the Middle East, it makes us even more thankful for them.
